A self-taught designer, Sanaz Nataj established her brand “Sanaz Nataj Couture” in the spring of 2009 through which she delivers wearable products with an art form.
Sanaz Nataj travelled to Qeshm Island in 2010 and was introduced to the intricate and original art of Golabatoun embroidery, Jelbeel, and Khous, among others. She was inspired to create a different tradition to what was known, to be used for adorning garments. Her innovation and serious work brought her the recognition from the Ministry of Culture in 2018, followed by the stamp of originality from UNESCO in 2019.
Sanaz also had a role in encouraging the people of Khorashad village in Southern Khorasan province to continue making their traditional handwoven fabrics from natural fibers. This has led to an increase in local weaving workshops. The exhibition of these fabrics in Tehran brought Sanaz another recognition from the Ministry of Culture. As her most recent recognition, she was appreciated in the 2021 Festival for Traditional Arts and Handicrafts in Iran.
